posted Jan 20, 2014, 7:16 PM by Pack 44 Webmaster   [ updated Jan 20, 2014, 7:22 PM ]
Inspection and registration will be held Friday Feb. 7th from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm in the church social hall.  There will be help available with minor adjustments/tuning/weights, etc. Once your car has  been officially registered, you may let it run down the racetrack one time and make final adjustments to your car. Your car must then be placed on the holding tables on the stage according to den, and not touched thereafter.

Pine Wood Derby will be held Saturday Feb. 8th also in the Church Social hall.  The derby starts promptly at 8:30 am until finished. (Approx. Noon) We start with the Tigers and run up through the dens by age, youngest to oldest.

Race Format

Each den will race among themselves with the three top finishers advancing to the finals. The Tigers will race each other with the top two receiving trophies, with all of the Tigers receiving participation awards. They do not participate in the pack finals.

Each car will race in all six lanes, points will be awarded according to their order of finish as follows: 1stplace = 1 point, 2nd place = 2 pts. , 3rd place = 3 pts. Etc. The car accumulating the LOWEST amount of points will be the winner of the den races with the three lowest point totals advancing to the finals. Racing in the finals will follow the same format as the den races. Scoring for the finals is started over; den race scores are not factored into the scores in the Finals.  The automatic recorder will determine the order of finish. In the event the automatic recorder fails, finish places will be judged by those appointed by derby chairperson(s).

Every scout building and racing a car in the event will receive a participation award for the derby. There will be trophies awarded to the top three finishers from each den, as well as trophies for the top three from the pack. There are also two Best of Show trophies awarded based on voting by all of the scouts in the pack.

There will be an open division for family members of scouts who would like to build and race a car or bring an old car out of retirement. Those who are interested must use an official Pine Wood Derby kit and follow the same rules that apply to the scouts. The open division will follow the same format as scout division.
